How to Link PAN with Aadhaar Online

Linking your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar is mandatory for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) and other financial transactions in India. It's a free process and can be done online through the official Income Tax e-filing portal. If not linked by the deadline (usually June 30 for the financial year), you may face a penalty of ₹1,000 (₹500 for senior citizens).

Important Notes:

- You need your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and a valid mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.

- Ensure you're using the official website to avoid scams—never share OTPs or details with unauthorized sites/apps.

- The process uses Aadhaar's e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) via OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.

- If your PAN is already linked, the portal will confirm it.

Step-by-Step Guide to Link PAN and Aadhaar Online:

1. Visit the Official Portal:

   - Go to the Income Tax e-Filing Site.

   - No login is required for linking; it's a guest feature.

2. Navigate to the Linking Section:

   - On the homepage, scroll down and click on "Instant Aadhaar-PAN Link" (under Quick Links) or search for "Link Aadhaar" in the top search bar.

3.  Enter Your Details:

   - Select "Link Aadhaar".

   - Enter your PAN number.

   - Enter your Aadhaar number (12-digit).

   - Provide your name as per PAN (it must match exactly; check your PAN card).

   - Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number and email (if linked).

4. Validate and Submit:

   - Click "Validate" to check if details match.

   - If validated successfully, you'll get a confirmation message: "Your PAN has been successfully linked with Aadhaar."

   - You'll also receive an email/SMS confirmation from the Income Tax Department.

5. Download Acknowledgment (Optional):

   - After linking, you can download a confirmation PDF from the portal for your records.

If You Face Issues:

Name Mismatch:

-If names don't match (e.g., due to spelling differences), update your Aadhaar details first via the UIDAI.

OTP Not Received:

-Ensure your mobile is linked to Aadhaar. Update it via UIDAI if needed.

Already Linked:

-The portal will show a success message even if it's pre-linked.
